Blood Red Road

Have you ever heard of the Costa Awards? They're given each year to recognize some of the most enjoyable books of the year by writers based in the UK and Ireland. This year's winner for Children's Book is actually a young adult book called Blood Red Road, by Moira Young.

Here's how the publisher described it: "Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back."

It's a book about a dark, post-apocalyptic future. If you liked Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy or Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking trilogy, this book might be worth a try.
